Teen Counselling
13-18 years
Teenage years can bring a lot of change - emotionally, socially, academically and within family relationships. Changing Tides provides teen counselling in Wollongong for young people who may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, emotional overwhelm, school difficulties, friendship or relationship challenges, family conflict, or struggles with confidence and identity.
Counselling offers a supportive, non-judgemental space for teenagers to talk openly, make sense of what they’re experiencing and develop practical strategies to cope with the things that feel difficult.
What can child counselling help with?
-
Anxiety can show up as constant worrying, overthinking, panic, avoidance, perfectionism or feeling overwhelmed by everyday situations.
Counselling can help teenagers understand their anxiety, recognise patterns and triggers, and build practical strategies for managing worry and feeling more in control.
-
Teenagers can sometimes feel flat, disconnected, unmotivated or unsure how to explain what’s going on. Counselling provides space to explore these feelings, understand what may be contributing to them and work towards small, manageable changes that support wellbeing.
-
Strong emotions can feel intense and difficult to manage, particularly when stress is already building. Counselling can help teenagers identify triggers, understand their emotional responses and develop healthier ways to manage anger, frustration, overwhelm and distress.
-
Academic pressure, anxiety, friendships, bullying or feeling overwhelmed at school can make attendance and learning difficult. Counselling can help teenagers explore what is making school hard and develop strategies around coping, communication, confidence and problem-solving.
-
Teen relationships can be complicated. Friendship changes, conflict, dating, boundaries and family tension can all have a big impact on wellbeing. Counselling can provide a neutral space to explore these experiences and build skills around communication, boundaries and relationships.

Adolescence is a time of figuring out who you are, where you fit and what matters to you. Counselling can support teenagers who are struggling with self-confidence, comparison, identity, body image or feeling different from the people around them.
